Ways to Install Virgin Hair Extensions

It is no doubt that virgin hair extensions are a very hot commodity these days. The primary reason for their popularity is the versatility of hair extensions. There is a vast variety of textures, origins, and colors. Virgin hair is so versatile that even its versatility is versatile (try saying that five times fast). There are also a variety of methods used to install hair extensions that we will discuss in this article.

Sew-in

Sewing in hair extensions is one of the more popular ways to install virgin hair extensions. This method involves braiding down your natural hair as a base and using a needle and weaving thread to sew the hair extensions onto this braided base. This method is done in almost all hair salons. It usually takes 2-3 hours depending on skill level and complexity of the style and can last anywhere from 2 to 3 months with proper maintenance and care.

Glue-in

This method is not so popular when it comes to virgin hair extensions. It involves using hair glue to glue the tracks into your hair. There are several reasons that many ladies opt not to use this method for virgin hair installs. One reason is that hair glue is not healthy for natural hair as it can cause breakage. Another reason is that using hair glue to install virgin hair may cause the hair to not be reusable.

Upart and closure wigs

Another method that has become popular in recent years is sewing virgin hair wefts to a cap to make upart and closure wigs. A upart wig is a wig with a “U” shaped opening for your leave out. The “U” shape allows you to style your leave out so that you can cover the tracks. A closure wig is a wig made with wefts and a closure. These wigs are usually handmade and can be sewn down or attached with elastic bands or wig clips. It only takes about 10 minutes to install a upart or closure wig and the take down process is fairly easy.

Fusion method

This method involved the use of either glue or a specialized polymer to attach small sections of virgin hair to the root of your natural hair. This process is very extensive and time consuming and can take anywhere from 10 to 16 hours. Fusion is perhaps the most versatile hair installation method because it allows you to part freely and wear your hair up or down without the worry of exposing tracks. Fusion only lasts up to 8 weeks because when your hair grows out the attachment site gets lower and causes it to become unhealthy to stay attached to your hair.

As you can see there are a variety of ways to install hair extensions and this list is not exhaustive. There are several other methods not mentioned such as quick weaves, micro loops, and bonding. The versatility is endless when it comes to virgin hair extensions!
