How to Maintain Curly Hair, EASY routine!

Curly hair textures are some of the most beautiful hair textures on the market. They can really give you a drastic, exotic change to your look. Especially if you wear straight hair most of the time like myself. But in all honesty curly hair can be a bit different when it comes to maintenance.
If you are not experienced with caring for curly hair, it might seem high maintenance to you. This blog post complete with video will take out all of the guesswork. I have a routine that I have used for years that has never let me down. Curly hair extensions in my opinion, should be cared for just like our natural hair. For instance, I have 4C hair which is naturally coily. The key to keeping my own hair manageable is moisture. The same goes for curly human hair.

Products

Let’s start with the products that you will need for this routine. One of my staples is Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Conditioner. It is inexpensive, and it WORKS. You will also need some argan oil. Argan oil is great for sealing in moisture. It is a must have if you live in a humid climate and it keeps your hair from swelling as the day wears on. You will need a spray bottle. A spray bottle can be purchased at any beauty supply store but if you happen to have an empty one laying around, that will work as well. The last thing you need is absolutely free, water.

Step 1: Mix products

For the first step you will need to mix the products together. I typically use an 8-ounce spray bottle. I start with filling it up with ¼ of conditioner. Next, I add about 2 tablespoons of argan oil. You only need a little bit of argan oil. Lastly, I fill the rest of the bottle up with water. Don’t get to hung up on the measurements though. They are just estimates because I usually just eyeball the amounts that I need. The video below will give you an exact visual of how I create this mixture.

Step 2: Wet your hair

In the next step you will need to wet your hair. ALWAYS complete this routine on wet hair. It will not work if the hair is dry. Depending on the style, I will spray it down with water or I will even stick my head under the sink.

Step 3: Spray mixture onto hair

Now you will need to spray your mixture on the hair. Be generous and make sure to coat the strands. After you spray the mixture, brush it through thoroughly. This is important because you want to make sure that it is evenly distributed throughout the hair.

Step 4: Apply Argan Oil

This step is very important and should not be skipped. Pour a dime sized amount of argan oil in your hands, rub them together, and rub it onto the hair. After you apply it to the hair, brush it through thoroughly. This will seal in the moisture so that your ringlets will stay manageable and intact.

I have been using this same routine since 2012 and it hasn’t failed me yet. I use it on deep wave, deep curly, and even kinky curly. It keeps my curls beautiful all day. If I am wearing a wig that I take off daily, I only have to do this twice a week. Keep in mind that after a while (about a month), the oil will build up and you will have to clarify the hair. Once you clarify you can continue the routine on fresh hair. I hope this blog post has been helpful.
